WHO I AM
I have already designed and sold clothes, worked as a photographer, journalist, advertising, waiter, bartender and even in a chocolate factory. Since I finished high school I believe that to reach a goal you need to wander. And wandering implies experiencing.
Based on that, I dedicated my work life researching, but mainly developing and implementing in the field, projects in education and communication areas, in private, public or social companies and entities. I majored in Social Communication and post graduated in Community Media (Casper Líbero University - São Paulo, Brazil) and New Businesses (University of California - Berkeley, USA).
In 1999, I co-founded the NGO Cidade Escola Aprendiz, a successful case of learning community recognised by Harvard University, based on trying out a new way of educate through education - later on it got called Media Literacy and Youth Media Production.
Since then, I have been lecturing, teaching, writing articles (for the mainstream media in Brazil, as the newspaper "O Estado de São Paulo") and developing several projects, always bringing innovation as an important asset.
During that time, I have co-founded three others NGOs and two companies. One of those was the app "MyFunCity", based on crowdsourced information of citizenship, and awarded by the WSA/United Nations.
I’am currently the CEO of the consultancy company "ZeitGeist - Education, Media and Culture". Also, I’m the International Co-Chairman of the UNESCO-led initiative GAPMIL (Global Alliance On Media Literacy). I’m part of the Consultive Board of Educamídia Project (Palavra Aberta Institute and Google) and Comunicar Magazine (Huelva University, Spain).
I wrote the book "Idade Media", among more than ten others, including collaborations and articles. I collaborate monthly as a columnist to A Gazeta do Povo newspaper.
Beyond writing articles for newspaper "O Estado de São Paulo", Portal Aprendiz and other media, I have organized and publicized the knowledge that the brand ZeitGeist and I have adquired in the field. It is important to translate to the general public the importance of an education that opens to the student's concerns and to contemporary topics.
That is why I have been part as a publisher, collaborator or columnist of more than ten books. I selected some below.
A COMUNICAÇÃO REINVENTADA NA ESCOLA
Media Literacy and the production of communication by students helps Bandeirantes High School to be among the most important institutions in Brazil. "Idade Mídia" tells this story through the glass of a contemporary education.
Education runs after a lost time - to get relevance, it needs to transform quickly, breathing the spirit of our time.
What are the key elements for quality education?
How do governments and businesses address the challenge of lifelong learning?
How each of us is a potential educator in network society?
What is the role of the family in this learning network?
These are questions that require deep reflexion to think about the future.
In addition to Brazil, I lectured and developed workshops in the United States, France, Egypt, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria and Lithuania, among others.
Here are some of my lectures and speeches (in Portuguese).
In German, ZeitGeist means "spirit of the time".
The ZeitGeist - Education, Culture and Media company believes that an equal and quality education must always be connected with the spirit of contemporaneity.
In other words, schools and companies need to understand the students/employers culture, demands and dreams, and also be connected to the world out of its walls.
Therefore, the company develops consultancy in the fields of education, culture and media - preferably providing the meeting of those areas. Developing implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects that connect people, causes, brands and transformation.
For schools, we create new curricula based in technology and teachers training and students’s expression. For other companies, we develop programs that ensure quality education of all stakeholders.
